Target Information
The CD3 subunit complex is crucial in transducing antigen-recognition signals into the cytoplasm of T cells and regulating the cell surface expression of the TCR complex. CD3 subunits (gamma, delta, epsilon, zeta) are structurally related members of the immunoglobulin superfamily encoded on human chromosome 11. These components associate with cytoplasmic signal transduction molecules via tyrosine-based motifs. CD3 plays roles in TCR-induced growth arrest, cell survival, and proliferation. It is expressed on 68–82% of normal peripheral blood lymphocytes and 65–85% of thymocytes, but not on B or NK cells. Altered T lymphocyte levels may be observed in autoimmune diseases. Defects in CD3 genes are associated with CD3 immunodeficiency.
