Target Information

The CD3 subunit complex is crucial for transducing antigen-recognition signals into T cell cytoplasm and regulating TCR surface expression. Activation of T cells through the TCR involves CD3 gamma, delta, epsilon, and zeta subunits—members of the immunoglobulin superfamily encoded on chromosome 11.
These subunits contain cytoplasmic tails with tyrosine-based motifs that mediate signal transduction and may influence TCR-induced growth arrest, survival, and proliferation.
CD3 antigen is expressed on 68–82% of peripheral blood lymphocytes, 65–85% of thymocytes, and Purkinje cells in the cerebellum, but not on B or NK cells. Reduced T lymphocyte percentages can occur in autoimmune diseases. Defects in CD3 genes are linked to CD3 immunodeficiency.
