Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the flamingo subfamily of the cadherin superfamily. Flamingo cadherins are nonclassic-type cadherins that do not interact with catenins. They are located at the plasma membrane and contain nine cadherin domains, seven epidermal growth factor-like repeats, and two laminin A G-type repeats in their ectodomain, along with seven transmembrane domains unique to this subfamily. These proteins are thought to function as receptors involved in contact-mediated communication, with cadherin domains facilitating homophilic binding and EGF-like domains contributing to cell adhesion and receptor-ligand interactions. The specific function of CELSR2 has not been determined.
