Target Information
Natural killer (NK) cells are lymphocytes that mediate lysis of certain tumor and virus-infected cells without prior activation and regulate humoral and cell-mediated immunity. The encoded protein belongs to the killer cell lectin-like receptor (NKG2) family, characterized by type II membrane orientation and a C-type lectin domain. It forms a complex with KLRD1/CD94 and recognizes MHC class I HLA-E molecules in NK cells. NKG2 family genes form a receptor cluster on chromosome 12. Four alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding two distinct isoforms have been identified.
