Target Information
C8A is a component of the complement system and contains three polypeptide subunits: alpha, beta, and gamma. The alpha subunit (C8A) is part of the membrane attack complex (MAC), which plays a key role in the innate and adaptive immune response by forming pores in the plasma membrane of target cells. C8A inserts into the target membrane but does not form pores by itself.
Diseases associated with C8A include Type 1 C8 deficiency and immunodeficiency due to C8A deficiency.
