CAPS2와 관련 단백질 CAPS1은 신경/내분비 특이적 세포질 및 주변 막 단백질을 암호화합니다. 두 단백질 모두 시냅스 소포 프라이밍 기계의 필수 구성 요소이며, Ca²⁺-조절 분비 소포의 배출에 필요합니다. CAPS 결핍 뉴런은 융합 가능한 시냅스 소포가 거의 없어 빠른 전달물질 방출에 장애를 일으킵니다. CAPS2의 다양한 아이소폼은 뇌에서 서로 다른 발현 패턴을 보이며, 특히 CAPS2b는 발달 중인 소뇌에서 높은 발현을 보입니다. 일부 자폐 환자에서는 exon 3이 결실된 CAPS2 mRNA가 검출되어, CAPS2의 발현 조절이 신경 발달에 관여함을 시사합니다.
