Product Specific Information
- Immunohistochemistry (PFA fixed): incubate antibody for 30 min at room temperature (RT).
- Staining of formalin-fixed tissues requires heating tissue sections in 10 mM Tris with 1 mM EDTA, pH 9.0, for 45 min at 95°C, followed by cooling at RT for 20 min.
Target Information
CEA (Carcinoembryonic Antigen, CD66e) is synthesized during fetal gut development and re-expressed in intestinal carcinomas and other tumors.
It belongs to the immunoglobulin supergene family and plays roles in cell adhesion, differentiation, angiogenesis, apoptosis, tumor suppression, and immune modulation.
CEA is a useful tumor marker for adenocarcinomas, particularly of endodermally derived digestive system epithelium and fetal colon.
Two subgroups of the CEA family—the CEA cell adhesion molecules and pregnancy-specific glycoproteins—are located within a 1.2 Mb cluster on chromosome 19.
CEA mediates cell adhesion via homophilic and heterophilic interactions and has multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms.
