Target Information
RAB family members are small, RAS-related GTP-binding proteins that are key regulators of vesicular transport. Each RAB protein interacts with multiple proteins involved in exocytic and endocytic pathways.
RAB7 regulates vesicle traffic in the late endosomes and from late endosomes to lysosomes. It also participates in cellular vacuolation induced by the VacA cytotoxin of Helicobacter pylori.
Mutations in conserved residues of this gene are associated with Charcot-Marie-Tooth (CMT) type 2 neuropathies.
