Product Specific Information
This antibody reacts with an extracellular epitope of CD81, a 25 kDa member of the tetraspanin family, expressed on the majority of cells.
Target Information
CD81 (TAPA-1) is a tetraspanin family protein expressed on most nucleated cells, particularly germinal center B cells. It forms complexes with other tetraspanins, integrins, coreceptors, and MHC molecules, influencing cell adhesion, morphology, activation, proliferation, and differentiation of B and T cells.
In muscle cells, CD81 promotes fusion and supports myotube maintenance. It also serves as a receptor for hepatitis C virus.
CD81 is implicated in various cellular processes and may play a role in tumor suppression. Antibodies against CD81 exhibit anti-proliferative effects on lymphoid cell lines.
