Target Information
The interleukins are a broad family of well-characterized cytokines, primarily of hematopoietic cell origin. Cytokines are small, soluble proteins with pleiotropic effects on various cell types and play regulatory roles in immune response and inflammation.
IL-25 (also known as SF20/IL-25) is a secreted bone marrow stroma-derived cytokine from Th2 T-cells, belonging to the IL-17 family. It amplifies allergic-type inflammatory responses by acting on other cell types and induces IL-4, IL-5, and IL-13 gene expression in mice, leading to epithelial hyperplasia, mucus secretion, and airway hyperreactivity. This suggests IL-25 may play a key role in allergic disease mediation.
