Target Information

RNA-binding protein that regulates the translation of specific target mRNA species downstream of the mTORC1 complex, depending on growth signals and nutrient availability.
Interacts with both the 3′ poly-A tails and the 7-methylguanosine cap structure of mRNAs containing a 5′ terminal oligopyrimidine (5′TOP) motif, which are found in mRNAs encoding ribosomal proteins and translation machinery components.
Binding to 5′TOP motif mRNAs represses translation by preventing EIF4G1 binding. Upon mTORC1 activation, LARP1 is phosphorylated and dissociates from the 5′UTR of mRNA.
It interacts with ribosomal subunits and promotes translation of 5′TOP motif mRNAs, regulating protein synthesis, cell growth, and proliferation. Stabilizes mRNAs with 5′TOP motifs to prevent apoptosis.
