Target Information
P5 is a novel protein originally identified in humans. It exhibits peptide binding ability and chaperone activity specific to certain proteins. Structurally, P5 shares similarities with PDI, an important ER protein. The amino acid sequence of P5 includes the ER retention signal KDEL, and two CXXC-like motifs responsible for oxidoreductase activity—one at each terminus. The N-terminal CXXC motif is more critical for isomerase activity. Unlike most PDI-like proteins, P5 is not stress-inducible.
