Target Information
P5 is a novel protein originally identified in humans. It exhibits peptide-binding ability and chaperone activity specific to certain proteins. P5 shares structural similarities with PDI, an important protein of the endoplasmic reticulum (ER).
The deduced amino acid sequence of P5 contains the ER retention signal KDEL and two CXXC-like motifs responsible for oxidoreductase activity—one at the N-terminus and one at the C-terminus. The N-terminal motif is considered more critical for isomerase activity.
Unlike most PDI-like proteins, P5 is not stress-inducible.
