Product Specific Information

This clone recognizes the alpha subunit of tubulin, specifically binding tyrosylated Tubulin (Tyr-Tubulin).
The epitope recognized by this antibody is a linear sequence requiring an aromatic residue at the C terminus, with two adjacent negatively charged amino acids (Glu-Glu-Tyr in Tyr-Tubulin).

MA1-80017 is predicted to react with amphibia, birds, and echinoderm based on sequence homology.
Does not react with Nephrotoma suturalis.

This antibody is suitable for use as a loading control.
It has been used in epitope tagging procedures to detect proteins tagged with a C-terminal Gly-Gly-Phe epitope.
These sequence requirements may lead to cross-reactivity with other proteins in certain cases, including E. coli rec A and oxidized actin.

Target Information

Alpha Tubulin is part of a heterodimer consisting of alpha and beta tubulin subunits, each approximately 55 kDa.
The alpha-beta tubulin heterodimer forms the basic building block of microtubules, which are cylindrical filamentous structures present in almost all eukaryotic cells.

Microtubules function as structural supports, intracellular transport lines, and play key roles in mitosis.
They are composed mainly of alpha and beta tubulins, while gamma tubulin is critical for microtubule nucleation.

Multiple alpha and beta tubulin genes are highly conserved among species.
The alpha tubulin gene shows high similarity to the mouse and rat Tuba1 gene.
Northern blotting studies indicate predominant expression in morphologically differentiated neurologic cells.
