Target Information
Collagen type I is present in soft connective tissue and bone, representing approximately 90% of the organic matrix. It is produced from procollagen when two terminal propeptides are cleaved and released into circulation. These propeptide levels can be measured in serum as indicators of collagen production. Elevated serum propeptide levels are associated with bone metabolism disorders. Procollagen type I C-terminal propeptide (PICP) has a molecular weight of approximately 100 kDa, with normal serum levels varying by age and sex.
