Target Information
Heat shock proteins (HSPs) are highly conserved and abundantly expressed proteins involved in diverse cellular functions such as assembly of multiprotein complexes, translocation of nascent polypeptides across membranes, and regulation of protein folding.
They are classified into six general families: HSP90, HSP70, HSP60, low molecular weight HSPs, immunophilins, and HSP110.
The low molecular weight HSP family includes HSP10, HSP20, HSP27, HSP32, and HSP40.
Chaperonins are essential ATP-dependent proteins that assist in proper protein folding, exemplified by E. coli GroEL and GroES (HSP10).
HSP10 forms a heptameric ring of identical 10 kDa subunits that binds to each end of GroEL, creating a functional heterodimer complex.
