Target Information
eIF4E is a eukaryotic translation initiation factor involved in several cellular processes including enhanced translational efficiency, splicing, mRNA stability, and RNA nuclear export. All eukaryotic mRNAs possess a 7-methylguanosine cap structure (m7GpppX) at their 5′ ends. EIF4E directs ribosomes to this cap structure and functions as part of the EIF4F multiprotein complex, which includes EIF4A (ATPase/RNA helicase) and EIF4G (scaffold protein). EIF4E is a 24 kDa polypeptide and serves as the rate-limiting component in eukaryotic protein synthesis.
