Target Information
Iron regulatory protein 2 (IRP2) is a central post-transcriptional regulator of cellular and systemic iron metabolism. It is a cytosolic RNA-binding protein that binds to stem-loop structures. IRP2 is regulated by iron-mediated proteolysis. Hypoxia plays a role in normal tissue physiology and several pathophysiological conditions, including heart and cerebrovascular diseases and tumor growth. Because iron and oxygen are closely related, IRP2 also functions during hypoxia (low oxygen).
