Target Information

I-Ab (H2-Ab1, histocompatibility 2, class II antigen A, beta 1) is an MHC class II heterodimer molecule composed of non-covalently associated alpha (31–34 kDa) and beta (26–29 kDa) chains.
MHC class II antigen presentation involves lysosomal proteases that degrade endocytosed antigens into peptides while class II molecules acquire antigen-binding capacity after invariant chain degradation.
These molecules present exogenous antigens to CD4+ T lymphocytes (T helper cells).
H2-Ab1 plays a central role in the immune system by presenting extracellular peptides and is expressed in antigen-presenting cells (B cells, dendritic cells, macrophages).
