Target Information
Heat shock proteins (HSPs) are highly conserved and abundantly expressed proteins involved in multiprotein complex assembly, membrane transport, and protein folding regulation. They are classified into six families: HSP 90, HSP 70, HSP 60, low molecular weight HSPs, immunophilins, and HSP 110.
The low molecular weight family includes HSP 10, HSP 20, HSP 27 (Heme Oxygenase 1), HSP 32, and HSP 40. Chaperonins, such as GroEL and GroES (HSP 10) in E. coli, assist protein folding in an ATP-dependent manner. HSP 10 forms a heptameric ring of identical 10 kDa subunits that bind to GroEL ends to create a functional heterodimer.
