Target Information

Transthyretin (TTR), also known as prealbumin, is a plasma protein that functions as a transporter of thyroxine and retinal-binding protein. It is primarily produced in the liver and secreted into the plasma. TTR constitutes about 25% of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) protein, suggesting selective transport across the blood-CSF barrier or synthesis within the central nervous system. It is found in neuritic plaques, neurofibrillary tangles, and microangiopathic lesions of senile cerebral amyloid. Over 40 different mutations in the TTR gene have been associated with amyloid deposition.
