Target Information

p27 Kip1 functions as a negative regulator of G1 phase progression and may mediate TGFβ-induced G1 arrest. It is an important regulator of cell cycle progression and a potent inhibitor of cyclin E- and cyclin A-CDK2 complexes. p27 Kip1 forms complexes with cyclin D-CDK4, contributing to assembly, stability, and modulation of CCND1-CDK4 activation. Depending on its phosphorylation state, p27 Kip1 can act as either an inhibitor or activator of cyclin D-CDK4 complexes. This protein (~27 kDa) undergoes CDK-dependent phosphorylation and SCF-mediated ubiquitination, which are essential for the transition from quiescence to proliferation.
