This antibody is specific for RIZ1 and does not recognize the beta isoform (RIZ2).


Target Information

PRDM2, a member of the nuclear/histone methyltransferase superfamily, contains:

  • N-terminal PR domain
  • Rb-binding motif
  • 8 Kruppel-like zinc finger motifs
  • Nuclear hormone-receptor binding motif
  • C-terminal PR-domain binding motif

PRDM2 is expressed ubiquitously at low levels and exists in two isoforms:

  • RIZ1 (280 kDa): Contains PR-domain
  • RIZ2 (250 kDa): Truncated isoform lacking PR-domain

PRDM2 acts as a tumor suppressor involved in cell growth and differentiation. It binds to Retinoblastoma protein, estrogen receptor, GATA-3, and TPA-responsive element (MTE) of the Heme-oxygenase-1 gene. It plays a role in:

  • Pathogenesis of Retinoblastoma
  • Transcriptional regulation during neuronal differentiation
  • Transactivation of Heme-oxygenase-1 gene
  • Estrogen action mediation

Alterations or inactivation of PRDM2 due to mutations and hypermethylation occur in many types of human cancers, suggesting its potential as a biomarker.
