- Western blot bands are observed at approximately 19 kDa (LC3-I) and 17 kDa (LC3-II).
- The observed molecular weight may vary due to post-translational modifications, cleavage, or charge differences.

Target Information
Autophagy is an intracellular degradation process where cytoplasmic components, including organelles, are sequestered within double-membrane vesicles (autophagosomes) that fuse with lysosomes for degradation.
LC3 (microtubule-associated protein 1 light chain 3) is a mammalian homologue of Atg8 and a key marker of autophagy. LC3-I is cytosolic, while LC3-II is membrane-bound and enriched in autophagic vacuoles.
Detection of LC3-I to LC3-II conversion serves as a sensitive marker for monitoring autophagy in mammalian cells.
