Target Information
PDGFRB (Platelet-Derived Growth Factor Receptor Beta) is a receptor tyrosine kinase implicated in atherogenesis and cell transformation by the SIS oncogene. These growth factors act as mitogens for cells of mesenchymal origin. The identity of the growth factor bound to a receptor monomer determines whether the receptor functions as a homodimer or heterodimer, composed of both PDGF receptor alpha and beta polypeptides. The PDGFRB gene is located on chromosome 5, adjacent to the genes for granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor and macrophage-colony stimulating factor receptor, all of which may be implicated in the 5-q syndrome. A translocation between chromosomes 5 and 12 that fuses PDGFRB (CD140b) to the ETV6 leukemia gene results in a chronic myeloproliferative disorder with eosinophilia.
