Target Information
Antizyme inhibitor (AZIN1) is a protein that positively regulates ornithine decarboxylase (ODC) activity and polyamine uptake. AZIN1 is an enzymatically inactive ODC homolog that counteracts the negative effect of ODC antizymes (OAZ1, OAZ2, OAZ3) by competing with ODC for antizyme binding. It inhibits antizyme-dependent ODC degradation and releases ODC monomers from inactive complexes, restoring catalytically active ODC homodimers and promoting polyamine production.
