Target Information
The SPARC gene encodes a cysteine-rich acidic matrix-associated protein. This protein is required for the collagen in bone to become calcified and is involved in extracellular matrix synthesis and modulation of cell shape. It has been linked to tumor suppression as well as metastasis, due to its role in altering cell morphology that can promote tumor cell invasion. Three transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified for this gene.
