Target Information
The DAXX gene encodes a multifunctional protein located in both the nucleus and cytoplasm. It interacts with various proteins including apoptosis antigen Fas, centromere protein C, and transcription factor E26 oncogene homolog 1. In the nucleus, DAXX acts as a transcription repressor binding to sumoylated transcription factors, with repression relieved upon sequestration into promyelocytic leukemia nuclear bodies or nucleoli. It also associates with centromeres during G2 phase. In the cytoplasm, DAXX may regulate apoptosis. Its localization and function are modulated by post-translational modifications such as sumoylation, phosphorylation, and polyubiquitination. Multiple transcript variants exist due to alternative splicing.
