Target Information
Aquaporins (AQP0–AQP10) are membrane water channels widely distributed in mammalian tissues. Some isoforms (AQP3, AQP7, AQP9, and one AQP10 transcript) also transport urea and glycerol. AQP2 is vasopressin-regulated and crucial for renal water reabsorption. Aquaporins contribute to renal water balance, pulmonary secretion, tear production, and cerebrospinal fluid regulation. In the lung, AQP5 mediates water transport across type I alveolar epithelial cells.
