Target Information
CHCHD6 is a member of a family of proteins containing a conserved (coiled coil 1)-(helix 1)-(coiled coil 2)-(helix 2) domain. It interacts with mitochondrial proteins such as mitofilin, SAM50, metaxins 1 and 2, and CHCHD3.
Knockdown of CHCHD6 causes severe defects in mitochondrial cristae morphology, reduced cell growth, ATP production, and oxygen consumption. It also affects mitofilin protein levels, suggesting coordinate regulation between CHCHD6 and mitofilin.
In human cancer cells, CHCHD6 knockdown increases sensitivity to genotoxic anticancer drugs, indicating its potential as a therapeutic anti-tumor target.
