Target Information
Cytokeratin 8 (CK8) is a type II keratin located on chromosome 12. Type I and II keratins form intermediate filaments in epithelial cells. CK8 typically pairs with keratin 18 to form filaments in simple epithelial layers. It contributes to cellular structural integrity, signal transduction, and differentiation. Mutations in this gene are associated with cryptogenic cirrhosis.
