Target Information
LFG is a seven transmembrane spanning protein and a member of a family that inhibits apoptotic cell death induced by the Fas receptor. It is the human homolog of rat NMP35 and contains a conserved transmembrane domain with a small cytoplasmic region.
Research indicates that LFG protects neurons from Fas-mediated cell death without affecting Fas expression or FADD binding. It does not protect against TNF-alpha mediated apoptosis. LFG is ubiquitously expressed, with higher levels found in hippocampus and other neural tissues, suggesting a protective role in neurodegenerative diseases.
