Target Information
The 26S proteasome is a multicatalytic proteinase complex with a highly ordered structure composed of two complexes: a 20S core and a 19S regulator.
- The 20S core contains four rings of 28 non-identical subunits (two α-rings and two β-rings).
- The 19S regulator includes a base with six ATPase and two non-ATPase subunits, and a lid with up to ten non-ATPase subunits.
Proteasomes are abundant in eukaryotic cells and cleave peptides in an ATP/ubiquitin-dependent, non-lysosomal pathway.
The immunoproteasome variant processes class I MHC peptides.
This gene encodes one of the non-ATPase subunits of the 19S regulator lid and may also participate in the TNF signaling pathway through interaction with the TNF type 1 receptor. A pseudogene is located on chromosome 1.
