Target Information
CACNA1D is also known as PASNA, SANDD, or Cav1.3. Voltage-dependent calcium channels mediate calcium ion entry into excitable cells and are involved in processes such as muscle contraction, hormone or neurotransmitter release, and gene expression.
These channels are multisubunit complexes composed of alpha-1, beta, alpha-2/delta, and gamma subunits. The alpha-1 subunit forms the pore and determines channel activity, while auxiliary subunits modulate its function.
Distinct calcium channel types arise from different alpha-1 isoforms, including alpha-1A, B, C, D, E, and S. This gene encodes the alpha-1D subunit, with multiple transcript variants identified.
