Specificity Comments:
CD6 is a type I transmembrane glycoprotein with a 24-amino acid signal sequence, three extracellular SRCR domains, a membrane-spanning domain, and a 44-amino acid cytoplasmic domain. It becomes tyrosine phosphorylated during TCR-mediated T cell activation. CD6 is expressed on mature thymocytes, peripheral T cells, and a subset of B cells. Anti-CD6 antibodies are used to deplete T cells from bone marrow transplants to prevent graft-versus-host disease.
Target Information
CD6 (also known as T12) is a member of the scavenger receptor superfamily expressed on T and B cell subsets, thymocytes, and acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL) cells. It interacts with CD166/ALCAM and functions as a coreceptor for T cell activation and stabilizer of the immunological synapse. CD6-ALCAM-mediated adhesion promotes T cell proliferation. CD6 may modulate CD5 signaling and has antiapoptotic roles in chronic lymphocytic leukemia B cells.
