PTGS1 (COX1, Cyclooxygenase 1)는 프로스타글란딘 생합성의 핵심 효소로, dioxygenase 및 peroxidase 활성을 모두 가지고 있습니다. PTGS에는 두 가지 isozyme이 존재하며, PTGS1은 항상성 유지와 세포 간 신호전달에 관여합니다. 이 유전자는 내피세포에서 혈관생성 조절에 관여하며, 아스피린과 같은 비스테로이드성 항염증제(NSAID)에 의해 억제됩니다. 또한, 대체 스플라이싱으로 두 가지 전사 변형체를 생성하며, 각각은 사이토카인 및 성장인자에 의해 다르게 조절됩니다.
