Vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP) is a neuroprotective factor that influences tumor cell growth variably—stimulating some and inhibiting others.
The ADNP gene encodes a protein upregulated by VIP, potentially mediating its stimulatory effects.
This protein includes one homeobox and nine zinc finger domains, suggesting transcriptional regulatory function.
It is upregulated in normal proliferative tissues and may enhance cell viability via p53 modulation.
Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding the same protein have been described.
