Target Information
Green fluorescent protein (GFP) from Aequorea victoria emits green light in bioluminescence reactions. It is widely used as a reporter for gene expression and as a protein tag in various organisms. GFP allows visualization of protein localization, movement, and cellular dynamics. The 27 kDa monomeric protein forms a fluorescent pigment that absorbs blue light (395 nm) and emits green light (508 nm) independently of cofactors. GFP fluorescence is stable and species-independent, suitable for applications such as monitoring gene expression, protein localization, protein-protein interaction studies (yeast two-hybrid system), and FRET assays.
