Target Information
Type I interferons, IFN-alpha and IFN-beta, are structurally and functionally related proteins induced by viruses or double-stranded RNA. They confer an antiviral state in cells and bind to a common receptor, IFN-alpha/betaR, which is distinct from the IFN-gamma receptor. IFN-alpha/betaR exists as two alternatively spliced transcripts, IFN-alpha/betaR1 and IFN-alpha/betaR2, both involved in signal transduction and ligand binding.
