Target Information
DDR2 is a member of a subclass of receptor tyrosine kinases (RTKs) and contains a distinct extracellular region encompassing a factor VIII-like domain. DDR1 and DDR2 are potently inhibited by Gleevec. DDR2 is required for normal bone development and regulates osteoblast differentiation and chondrocyte maturation via a MAP kinase–dependent signaling pathway leading to activation of RUNX2. It regulates extracellular matrix remodeling by up-regulating collagenases MMP1, MMP2, and MMP13, facilitating cell migration and tumor invasion. DDR2 also promotes fibroblast migration and proliferation, contributing to cutaneous wound healing.
