Target Information
Leukocytes adhere to the blood vessel endothelium during extravasation in postcapillary venules of lymph nodes. Leukocyte adhesion also occurs in the capillaries and small venules at any site in the body after the onset of inflammation. This response involves a cascade of adhesion receptors, including selectins and immunoglobulin superfamily members.
E-selectin (CD62E) is an endothelial cell-specific selectin expressed only after activation with proinflammatory cytokines such as IL-1, TNFα, and bacterial components like lipopolysaccharides, via an NFκB-dependent signaling cascade. E-selectin is associated with the vascular endothelium in various inflammatory conditions.
