Target Information
The Urotensin-II receptor (UTS2R) is highly expressed in the heart and pancreas, as well as in arteries and smooth muscle. Lower expression levels are found in the brain, particularly in the thalamus and superior occipital gyrus.
G-protein Coupled Receptors (GPCRs) represent one of the largest families of signaling molecules, characterized by seven transmembrane helices and existing in both active and inactive forms. Activation by specific ligands triggers G-protein signaling and downstream effectors.
GPCR regulation mechanisms are critical for cellular physiology and pharmacological research, leading to the development of major GPCR-targeted drugs such as Zyprexa (Eli Lilly) and Claritin (Schering-Plough).
