Background
Developmental Stage: Expression decreases with development in ventricular tissue while remaining highly expressed in adult atrial tissue. In human skeletal myocytes, expression decreases during myogenic differentiation (protein level).
Function: Interacts with RB1 and EP300, acting as a repressor of MYOD1 transactivation. Inhibits EP300 and CBP histone acetyltransferase activity, possibly coupling cell cycle exit to transcriptional activation of differentiation-related genes.
Induction: Down-regulated in differentiating U937 leukemia cells.
Miscellaneous: MYOD1 inhibition may result from EID1 binding and inhibition of EP300 histone acetyltransferase activity.
PTM: Ubiquitinated in U-2OS osteosarcoma cells and rapidly degraded by proteasome during cell cycle exit.
Subunit: Interacts via LXCXE motif with RB1 pocket region; also interacts with EP300, NR0B2, and TRIM27.
Tissue Specificity: Widely expressed, abundant in heart, skeletal muscle, pancreas, brain, and testis. Low in placenta and peripheral blood leukocytes, barely detectable in lung. Weakly expressed in lung carcinoma A549 and leukemia cell lines.
