Background

This gene encodes a member of the cyclin family, important regulators of cell cycle transitions via activation of cyclin-dependent kinases. Cyclin F also belongs to the F-box protein family, characterized by a ~40 amino acid F-box motif. F-box proteins form part of the SCF (SKP1-cullin-F-box) ubiquitin ligase complex, functioning in phosphorylation-dependent ubiquitination. They are divided into three classes: Fbws (WD-40 domains), Fbls (leucine-rich repeats), and Fbxs (various interaction modules or no recognizable motifs). Cyclin F belongs to the Fbxs class and was among the first identified F-box proteins.
