Target Information
NR4A1 (also known as Nur77) is a member of the steroid-thyroid hormone-retinoid receptor superfamily. It is expressed in brain, adrenal, thyroid, liver, testis, ovary, thymus, muscle, lung, and prostate, and is induced by stress stimuli and growth factors. NR4A1 acts as a nuclear transcription factor mediating apoptotic signaling in thymocytes and tumor cells and is involved in hypothalamic-pituitary axis signaling. Translocation from the nucleus to mitochondria induces apoptosis. Three transcript variants encoding two isoforms have been identified, with RXR known as a binding partner.
