Target Information
Aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases are enzymes that charge tRNAs with their cognate amino acids.
FARS2 encodes a mitochondrial phenylalanine-tRNA synthetase (PheRS) that consists of a single polypeptide chain, unlike the (alpha-beta)₂ structure of prokaryotic and eukaryotic cytoplasmic PheRS.
Structural and catalytic analyses suggest that mitochondrial PheRSs represent a distinct class from their prokaryotic and cytoplasmic counterparts.
