Target Information
Programmed cell death 5 (PDCD5) is a human apoptosis-related protein involved in early and universal apoptosis processes. PDCD5 is widely expressed and upregulated in cells undergoing apoptosis, translocating rapidly from the cytoplasm to the nucleus. It has a compact core structure with two mobile N-terminal alpha-helices and a flexible unstructured C-terminal region. Charged residues are critical for apoptosis promotion and cellular translocation. PDCD5 facilitates apoptosis and enhances TAJ/TROY-induced paraptosis-like cell death. It interacts with Tip60 as a co-activator to promote apoptosis. Variations in the PDCD5 promoter region may influence susceptibility to certain cancers, including chronic myelogenous leukemia and lung cancer.
