Target Information
The endoplasmic reticulum aminopeptidase 1 (ERAP1) is a 120 kDa protein localized in the ER lumen. It removes NH₂-terminal residues from antigenic precursors for MHC class I peptide presentation. ERAP1 trims peptides of 9 or more amino acids to the optimal length (8–11 residues) for MHC class I presentation. It is induced by interferon-gamma and maps to chromosome 5q15.
ERAP1 is also known as:
- Adipocyte-derived leucine aminopeptidase (A-LAP)
- Puromycin-insensitive leucine-specific aminopeptidase (PILS-AP)
- Aminopeptidase regulator of TNFR1 shedding (ARTS-1)
A-LAP may regulate bioactive peptides such as angiotensin II, influencing blood pressure. PILS-AP is associated with angiogenesis by regulating endothelial cell proliferation and migration, while ARTS-1 promotes TNFR1 shedding. Further research is required to fully elucidate the functions of this protein.
