Mouse anti-Bovine CD28, clone CC219, recognizes the bovine homologue of human CD28, a co-stimulatory cell surface molecule expressed by T cell subsets.

Target Information

CD28 antigen is a 44 kDa disulfide-linked homodimeric T cell-specific surface glycoprotein. It belongs to the immunoglobulin superfamily and is constitutively expressed on most peripheral blood T lymphocytes. CD28 acts as a critical T cell costimulatory receptor that delivers a second activation signal by binding CD80 and CD86 expressed on antigen-presenting cells.
In addition to its co-stimulatory role, CD28 prevents T cells from entering an anergic or apoptotic state. In murine lymphoid organs and blood, all CD4+ and CD8+ T cells express CD28. In the thymus, CD28 expression is highest on immature CD3-, CD8+, and CD4+8+ cells, as well as on CD4-8- cells expressing α/β and γ/δ TCR. Mature thymocytes show two- to fourfold lower CD28 expression compared to immature cells.
Diseases associated with CD28 dysfunction include mycosis fungoides and Sezary’s disease.
