Target Information
Deacylates mischarged D-aminoacyl-tRNAs and mischarged glycyl-tRNA(Ala), protecting cells from glycine mischarging by AlaRS. Functions by rejecting L-amino acids from its binding site rather than specifically recognizing D-amino acids. Catalyzes hydrolysis of D-tyrosyl-tRNA(Tyr) but not correctly charged L-tyrosyl-tRNA(Tyr).
By recycling D-aminoacyl-tRNA to D-amino acids and free tRNA molecules, it prevents toxicity associated with D-aminoacyl-tRNA formation and maintains protein L-homochirality.
Unlike DTD1, it can deacylate L-Ala mischarged on tRNA(Thr)(G4.U69) due to relaxed substrate chirality specificity caused by the trans conformation of the Gly-Pro motif in the active site (PubMed:29410408).
Also hydrolyzes correctly charged glycyl-tRNA(Gly) in vitro, though in vivo EEF1A1/EF-Tu may protect it from DTD2-mediated deacetylation. [UniProt]
